Timberland covers over 50% of the surface land area of North Alabama and accounts for over $200 million in annual production. North Alabama’s forests are comprised of 68% hardwood stands, 22% softwood stands and 10% mixed pine/hardwood stands.
North Alabama has attracted numerous projects in the forest products industry, including bioenergy and primary and secondary wood product manufacturers. Alabama timberlands, which hold the title of the second largest commercial acreage in the US, are being replenished faster than they’re being harvested, allowing ample room for the growth of the industry.
